Cookies & storage
Last updated: October 12, 2026
We keep this simple. SparkMyName™ uses what’s needed to run the service, plus one optional thing you can say yes or no to: first-party analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, marketing pixels, retargeting, session recordings or third-party advertising tracking.
Essential — always on
These run because the service can’t work without them. They are not used to track you across other websites.
| What | Purpose | Kept |
|---|---|---|
smn_consent (cookie) | Remembers your cookie choice so we don’t ask again. | 6 months |
| Your idea and order (browser session storage) | Carries the business idea you typed into checkout, and back if you change it. | Until you close the tab |
| Email, language, currency, promo code (browser local storage) | So you don’t retype your email at checkout, and the site stays in the language and currency you picked. | Until you clear it |
| Share-link code (browser local storage, only if you arrive from a customer’s share link) | Remembers which customer shared the link, so they get their thank-you credits if you order. It is sent only when you check out. | 30 days |
| Studio sign-in (browser local storage) | Keeps you signed in to your Studio after a magic-link sign-in. | Until you sign out |
googtrans (cookie, only if you pick another language) | Tells the translation tool which language you chose. Choosing a language loads Google’s translation script on that page. | Until you switch back to English |
| Payment page (set by our payment processor, on its own site) | Secure payment and fraud prevention on the payment page. We never see your card number. | Per the processor’s policy |
Optional — only if you accept
Analytics, first-party only. If you choose “Accept” in the cookie banner, our own site counts page visits, clicks on the main buttons, ideas submitted, checkouts started, film plays and completed orders, so we can see where visitors get stuck and make the site clearer. It runs on our own address and sends nothing to advertising or analytics companies.
What it records: the event, the page address (never the part after “?”), the website you came from, whether you’re on a phone, tablet or desktop, your browser language, your country, and a random session id kept in your browser’s local storage (smn_sid, 30 days). What it never records: the idea you typed, your email, your name, your order, anything inside your Studio, your voice, or payment details. Records are deleted after 13 months.
Off until you say yes. Nothing is preselected, browsing on is not a yes, and you can buy with it switched off. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as “No thanks” and don’t ask. Switching it off later stops the counting and deletes the session id from your browser.
What we don’t do
- No Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, ad networks, retargeting or session-recording tools.
- No selling or sharing of your activity for advertising, and no cross-site tracking.
- No optional tracking before you choose, and no penalty for saying no.
- Visits from AI answers. When you arrive from an AI answer such as ChatGPT, our own site adds one to an anonymous daily count of which assistant sent the visit and which page it opened. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, keeps no session id and is not used for advertising. It is skipped if you chose “No thanks” or your browser sends Global Privacy Control. Details in our Privacy Policy, Section 4.
- Page-speed measurement. Our hosting provider may load a small script that reports how fast a page loaded (load time, page path, browser type and country). It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and is not used to identify you or for advertising; it exists only to keep the site fast.
Changing your mind
Use Cookie settings (also in the footer of every page) to change your choice at any time. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings; blocking essential storage may stop checkout or sign-in from working, and clearing local storage removes the saved email and language on that device.
